Sometimes when I have a busy run of styling on white backgrounds...I crave some darkness, texture, depth, something unusual...odd. This collaboration is manifested from such a space. I researched and found a scientific website where I could borrow/rent some bird skeletons. They are shore birds, although one looks like a chicken skeleton. I sourced some beetles. One kind Philippine and another Egyptian. Then spent a morning milling about the booths at the San Francisco Flower Market for a palate of flowers. I love going to the Flower Market. It's amazing with it's endless booths, smiling faces, variety, and blooms. Its so much and just the right amount to visually take in. A kindly old Russian gentleman wrapped up my flowers and stems in News Print and twine. I think we fancied each other if we just either of us born into a different century. I think we would have crossed paths.
I sought out photographer Rob Brodman to light and shoot. His skill set is perfect for this kind of work. He's really good at light in laymans terms. Here's the result thus far. I hope you like it.
Next, I'm looking at snake skeletons and tiny blooms. Maybe I will stuff their ribcages, long and lean.
Who knows after that.
Thank you for taking a look.
Thank you for indulging me.
In darkness and in light.
