Part of my job as a Sr Photo Stylist, is to work with a brand on developing key looks for the season. I've been super blessed to work alongside Abigail, Alexis & Tony Brand Stylists for Old Navy Online Team, and Old Navy Brand team. Abigail, Alexis and Tony, work closely with merchants to create looks for each season. The key looks. Aspirational. They make magic for the on figure shoots. One of my roles with them as a freelancer is to curate the Still Life and Laydown/Flat Shoot looks for the season.
We meet in rooms laden heavily with products...bursting...bustling....organized chaos. Then we listen to vision, listen to design and merch teams for each division. We hear what launches when, whats ready now. What are the priorities, what's first, middle and last of the season. Then we plunge our hands into bins and boxes, sorting through racks and racks of clothing...coming up with concepts, ideas, runs, stories, textures, offerings that will be loved, appreciated, disliked, and even torn down. We smile with great resolve and work until we find it. The magic. It's always there, somewhere, someplace.
I've been working with Old Navy for two years as a freelancer. As a sr photo stylist, a photo art director, and a creative force. I love to push, try more, do more, see more, pitch more, expand the vision of what is and what can be.
At a Style Out, we design the Season. We build a room out to show the "bigs." We listen, we learn, we support one another. Work is fast, as soon as you turn over the merchandise and looks for the SL photo shoots and the On-figure photo shoots...product rolls in again for the next season, holiday, event. My end of a Style Out is I go to set with the Still Life and Flat Shoot products. As Art Director I give a pre-pro & communicate with Stylists, Jr Stylists, Photographers and the Producer about what we're shooting. How were shooting it. I show pictures of what we laid out in Style Out, I look at light. I check in with everyone and see where everyone is at going into a shoot.
I speak "Creative."
The JR Stylists prep and make the product beautiful, the Stylists style, and I help to weigh in on whats working and what isn't. I guide, I touch, I talk, we work. I watch light and shadows and listen to the photographers. I mock up shoots at the end of the day for the DA's. These fellows that do Old Navy Post...are some of the very best. Always a smooth process.
Coming from a Stylist background is all gift, if a Stylist is a no-show, or late, or needs to leave early. I have covered sets and Art Directed as well. I LOVE the hybrid role. It's been such a gift to see entire Seasons, Holidays, Projects through from seed to fruition.
Thank you Old Navy!
